The #KUMIAI Indigenous People Halt Construction of the “TRUMP WALL” at the US/Mexico

July 1, 2020

Kumiai Indians temporarily prevented the construction of a fragment of the #TrumpWall in a ceremonial area located on the California border where US soldiers intend to use explosives.

The organization American Friends Services Committee (AFSC) considered that this government action will desecrate the sacred lands of this group originating from the southeastern United States and northwest Mexico.

A group of indigenous people from San Antonio Necua and San José la Zorra in the municipalities of Ensenada and Playas de Rosarito, moved to the area where the border wall is to be erected to prevent the works being carried out in Campo, California, bordering Tecate, Baja California.

The Kumiai affirm that this land has been inhabited by their ancestors and warned that they will remain long after Trump is gone.

The indigenous people spoke out for the defense of that ceremonial area that is located on the limits of the steel fences where now it is intended to dynamite to place steel rollers 10 meters high and 3 meters deep.

At the moment, it was possible to stop this work by requesting the intervention of American specialists (cultural monitors) to review the area in order to rule out the existence of vestiges of their ancestral culture, since they have found "sunburned bones" in the immediate vicinity.
